FreeBar statement following Supreme Court ruling

29th April 2025 • Ashley Allen

FreeBar always has been and always will be a Trans inclusive organisation which is focused on fostering inclusion and support for all LGBTQ+ people working as and with barristers.

We are deeply troubled by the widespread and differing interpretations of the Supreme Court ruling, the harmful tone of the public discourse that has followed it and the uncertainty which has followed from the EHRC interim update (25/4/25)

FreeBar stands in solidarity with trans, intersex and non-binary people as we all grapple with what the legal and real life/practical implications are and how to address them. We are deeply conscious this is a traumatic and frightening time for trans people and the wider LGBTQ+ community.

We will be working with other LGBTQ+ inclusive organisations to play our role in the response to the judgment. We will never stop working for “Acceptance without Exception” and for an inclusive culture that respects human rights, dignity and privacy for all LGBTQ+ people.

We will disseminate news of events and activities organised by us and other LGBTQ+ organisations via our mailings.

Please email info@freebar.co.uk to be added to our mailing list or if you want to get involved with our work.
