There truly is no one-size-fits-all model for how to be a barrister. At the Bar, you can find your own path and your own way to build a career.

When I first came to the Bar, I had an image in my mind of what a barrister was expected to be. That image reflected all of the stuffy, traditional, hyper-masculine stereotypes of what I thought clients and judges expected from a male barrister.

Fortunately, I was wrong. I have learnt that the best way for anyone to make a happy, successful career at the Bar is to be themselves. At the modern Bar, there is a place for everyone. Whatever your background, your personality, your gender or your sexuality, there are chambers which will welcome you and value the unique contribution you can make and the Bar will be richer for the diversity and life experience you bring.
