Having graduated in Law from the University of Bristol, I took the BPTC in London and am now a barrister at Hailsham Chambers. My experience has been that the diversity of BPTC students in particular is fantastic, not least in terms of sexual orientation.

I came across FreeBar whilst studying, and was really pleased to encounter this network of forward-thinking people with whom common experiences can be shared, and ideas for progression can be discussed. In terms of the Inns and the profession as a whole, I have confidence in strengthening attitudes of openness and tolerance. My message to anyone in the LGBTQ+ community would therefore be: it is absolutely possible to be your whole self and be recognised as a valuable member of this profession.
